Robin Pröpper’s time at Ibrox is all but over, with the Dutch centre-back set to seal a return to FC Twente after a disappointing year in Glasgow.
Signed last summer by Philippe Clement, Pröpper arrived with strong credentials as Twente’s captain — but it never quite clicked. Despite starting 22 league matches, his performances lacked the presence and aggression needed to thrive in Scottish football. A red card in the Europa League against Athletic Club was arguably his most memorable moment — for the wrong reasons.

Following Clement’s departure in February, the writing was on the wall. Russell Martin made it clear Pröpper wasn’t part of his plans, and now, after a brief contract stand-off with Twente, the defender is on the verge of completing his move back to the Eredivisie.

From an Ibrox Insider perspective, this is a smart piece of business. Pröpper never looked suited to the Scottish game, and with Rangers deep into a full-scale rebuild, clearing out players who don’t fit the system is exactly what’s needed. There are no hard feelings — we wish him the best — but this is the right move for all involved.
His departure marks another step in what’s already been a busy window. Rangers have brought in Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga, and Djeidi Gassama, while several others are expected to depart. Talks are ongoing with Aris Limassol over Ross McCausland, and the likes of Ben Davies, Jose Cifuentes, and Rabbi Matondo are also likely to be moved on.
Russell Martin’s message is clear: there’s no room for passengers in his high-tempo, high-press squad. The rebuild isn’t just under way — it’s well in motion.
