Is the final piece of Rangers’ managerial puzzle about to fall into place?
Reports from the BBC suggest that Davide Ancelotti, son of the legendary Carlo, held fresh talks with Rangers in London last week and feels he is now the top candidate for the Ibrox hot seat. And if our understanding is correct—that Andrew Cavenagh, part of the incoming American-led consortium, has now made the trip to Europe—then it looks like the final stamp of approval on Ancelotti’s appointment might be just days away.
What’s clear is that Ancelotti wants the job. And crucially, he’s now acting like a man ready to make the leap. Originally expected to follow his father to Brazil to help with the national team’s summer schedule, Davide has opted out of that arrangement. He’s reportedly staying in Europe with his eyes fully fixed on securing his first solo role in management—and all signs point to that being at Rangers.
That’s a huge statement. And it’s now up to Rangers and the new ownership group, including 49ers Enterprises and sporting director-in-waiting Kevin Thelwell, to move decisively. If Ancelotti is truly their man, the time for hesitation is over.
But what’s sent social media into overdrive isn’t just the thought of Ancelotti in the Ibrox dugout. It’s who might follow him.
The BBC report hints that Luka Modric—yes, that Luka Modric—was personally asked by Ancelotti if he fancied a move to Rangers. And he didn’t say no. Modric might be exploring other options after leaving Real Madrid, but even that whisper of interest from a Ballon d’Or winner is enough to stir the imagination of every Rangers fan.

Even more intriguing is the suggestion that other elite players have also expressed a desire to follow Davide to Scotland. It sounds like fantasy football—but when you consider the respect he commands in elite dressing rooms, maybe it isn’t so far-fetched.
One thing’s for certain: Rangers fans are right to dream big this summer. Whether or not we land a global star like Modric, the mere idea of attracting players of that calibre shows the gravity Davide Ancelotti brings to the table. And if Rangers move quickly, we might just be about to enter a new era—with a bold, modern manager who wants to build something lasting at Ibrox.
It feels too good to be true. But maybe, just maybe, it’s not.
