Rangers Women 3-0 Glasgow City
Scottish Cup Final – Hampden Park
Rangers responded to the heartbreak of missing out on the SWPL title in the best possible way—by securing back-to-back cup doubles with a dominant 3-0 victory over Glasgow City in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park.
Kirsty Howat was at the double, but it was a full team performance brimming with character, intensity, and no shortage of quality. After a bruising defeat to Hibernian last weekend cost the team the league and a Champions League spot, Jo Potter’s side could have crumbled. Instead, they delivered an emphatic answer.
Big-Game Mentality
The signs were there from the first whistle. Mia McAulay struck the base of the post inside ten minutes and Kathy Hill’s looping header smacked the crossbar soon after. Rangers were relentless, quick in transition, and clearly on a mission.
Wilkinson, who has scored 46 goals this season, turned creator-in-chief at Hampden. Her through ball set McAulay free for the opener—an inch-perfect drive into the far corner. Moments later, Wilkinson found Howat, who twisted and turned Van Diemen before rifling into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 before the break.
City were stunned. Their normally assured passing game was reduced to hopeful long balls, and even when Kozlova got a glimpse of goal, she smashed the crossbar in frustration.
Ruthless After the Break
Any hopes of a Glasgow City fightback were extinguished early in the second half when Wilkinson once again unlocked the defence. This time, she released Chelsea Cornet, who calmly squared for Howat to tap into an empty net.
It was game over.
Van Diemen’s late red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity—confirmed by VAR—was just another chapter in a grim afternoon for Leanne Ross’ side. Kozlova’s open-goal miss summed it all up: they weren’t at the races, and they knew it.
Redemption at Hampden
This wasn’t just about silverware. It was about character. About pride. About showing what Rangers Women are all about under Jo Potter.
“We knew how much this meant,” Potter said post-match. “It was an excellent performance and an excellent win for us. On our day, no one can handle us, and we definitely proved that.”
She wasn’t wrong. Rangers were quicker, smarter, stronger—and most importantly—hungrier.
The Final Word
City may have clinched the second Champions League place, but Rangers have the cup and the glory. They’ve now gone two full campaigns lifting both the League Cup and Scottish Cup—a testament to the strength Potter is building.
Wilkinson might be known for her goals, but today she showed the other side of her game. Three assists, constant pressure, and a tireless work rate—she was outstanding.
Howat and McAulay will get the headlines, but this was a performance built on unity and resilience. After last week’s disappointment, this was the perfect response.
A good crowd at Hampden. A dominant display. And more silverware for the Ibrox trophy cabinet.
Cup double complete. Next season we have to be adding the league to the list of successes.
