It’s the final game of the season, and for Rangers fans, it can’t come soon enough.

After a rollercoaster campaign full of frustration, fleeting highs, and a sense of transition looming large, today’s match away to Hibernian at Easter Road (12:30pm kickoff) feels like the closing chapter of an era—and the prologue to something new.

A Farewell for Ferguson?

This afternoon also marks what will almost certainly be Barry Ferguson’s final game as Rangers manager. His interim tenure has had its moments: progress in the Europa League, that memorable win away to Celtic, and a thumping victory over Aberdeen. But domestic inconsistency has proven too big a hurdle to clear.

Press conference given by Barry Ferguson after Rangers beat Dundee United mid-week.

With a takeover underway and a new managerial appointment on the horizon, a fresh start is inevitable. Ferguson’s passion and dedication can’t be faulted, and today offers a fitting opportunity for players and fans to give him a proper send-off.

Rangers Team News and Predicted Lineup Against Hibernian

Rangers are expected to name an unchanged XI from the side that comfortably dispatched Dundee United. Jack Butland returned in goal last weekend and is likely to keep his place after some solid stops—including a comical, but crucial, save to prevent an own-goal from Dessers.

Leon Balogun may be given the nod once more despite a heavy run of games. With his contract likely up and this being his final outing in a Rangers shirt, expect a sentimental selection from Ferguson. In our opinion Balogun should be given another year given his performances and the passion he shows when he speaks about Rangers. His not on a big contact and is seen as one of the leaders, a good guy to have around the dressing room.

Vaclav Černý is also expected to start, but his future appears to lie away from Ibrox. The winger’s loan deal ends after today, and his recent post on Instagram seemed to be a heartfelt farewell—thanking the fans and reflecting on his time in Glasgow. It looks increasingly likely that a permanent move won’t materialise.

Midfield:
Nicolas Raskin

The Opposition: Hibs on the Rise

Hibernian’s season turnaround under David Gray has been impressive. After a dire start, they’ve clawed their way up to third place—safe and secure, when not long ago they looked in real relegation danger. Credit to the club for showing patience with Gray; it’s paid off.

Expect an open, attacking game. Both sides have found the net regularly in recent weeks, but they’ve also been generous at the back. It’s got the makings of a goal-filled finale.

One More Win for Ferguson, his coaching team and the fan

Today is about finishing with pride. A last hurrah for Ferguson, a send-off for players like Černý and Balogun, and a final push before the real work begins in the summer. A convincing win at Easter Road would be a small but welcome way to draw the curtain on a turbulent season.

Let’s hope the team delivers one more time.

With the managerial appointment expected any day now, this match could mark the end of Barry Ferguson’s short but steady stint at the helm. A win over Dundee United would cap it off nicely — and give the new boss plenty to think about.
