It’s the penultimate home game of what has ultimately been a frustrating season for Rangers, and while there’s no silverware left to fight for, pride, performance, and future planning are all on the line as Aberdeen roll into Ibrox on Sunday.
Aberdeen still have something to play for — they’re chasing third place and European football — and will arrive full of motivation. Rangers, on the other hand, are under pressure to deliver something for the fans after a campaign that’s fallen short of expectations. The mood around Ibrox is one of restlessness, and interim boss Barry Ferguson knows the importance of ending on a high note.
One of Ferguson’s Final Test at Ibrox
With just two home games remaining, the spotlight is firmly on Ferguson. So far, he’s failed to secure a win at Ibrox, and fans are beginning to wonder if we’ll see bold decisions in these final games — or more of the same.
Supporters have been vocal in their calls for change. Fringe players and youngsters are being championed by the fanbase, but Ferguson has largely stuck with the tried and tested — or perhaps more accurately, the tried and underdelivered. Sunday’s team sheet could be telling.
Hagi Says Goodbye
In a sad but unsurprising update, Ianis Hagi is out for the remainder of the season, and with his contract up in the summer, it looks like we’ve seen the last of him in a Rangers shirt. A player of immense technical ability whose Ibrox story was often hampered by injury — he departs with a sense of what could have been.
Youth Movement Incoming?
There are hints that change is coming. Bailey Rice was front and centre in the pre-match press conference and spoke confidently about the squad’s desire to bounce back and the influence Ferguson has had since stepping up. That alone suggests he may be in line for a start, and with fans desperate for a glimpse of the future, it could be a popular move.
Kasanwirjo — recently back in training after featuring for the B team — might also get minutes, even if Ferguson admitted he’s not quite at full sharpness. Robbin Propper is another name back in contention, which gives the manager more flexibility in defence or midfield.
Danilo and Cortes: Time to Explore, Given the Price Tags
With little on the line, many are wondering why players like Danilo and Oscar Cortes aren’t being given more game time. Danilo remains one of our biggest investments, while Cortes is set to be signed permanently this summer. If they’re part of the club’s future, we need to see more of them now — not next season when the pressure is back on.

It’s a match that might not matter in the standings, but it matters to the fans — and to those players hoping to be part of Rangers’ next chapter. Whether Ferguson will make the bold calls remains to be seen, but the Ibrox crowd will demand a performance that hints at better days ahead.
