As Rangers prepare for another crucial summer of rebuilding, two familiar faces look set to move on—this time for good. Ben Davies and Kieran Dowell, both currently on loan at Birmingham City, could be heading for permanent stays in the Midlands following successful stints in League One.

With the Blues celebrating promotion back to the Championship as League One champions, their attention has quickly turned to squad planning—and it seems our lads have made quite the impression.

🛡️ Ben Davies: Solid and Settled

It’s no secret that Ben Davies never fully settled at Ibrox after arriving from Liverpool. Despite flashes of composure on the ball, injuries and inconsistency meant he never quite commanded the Rangers backline. But at Birmingham, it’s a different story. Davies has racked up over 40 appearances this season, forming the backbone of a resolute defence that powered their title charge.

Reports suggest Davies has found his rhythm at St. Andrew’s—and he’s hinted himself that he may not return north of the border. “I’m really enjoying it here,” he told the press, “so if the opportunity arose, I’d consider it seriously.”

A permanent deal worth around £2 million is being mooted, and few Rangers fans would begrudge him the move. He’s done a professional job, but with fresh defensive options needed at Ibrox, it feels like the right time for both parties.

🎯 Kieran Dowell: Reignited and Resurgent

If Davies’ move flew under the radar, Kieran Dowell’s loan to Birmingham came as even more of a surprise. The attacking midfielder arrived at Rangers last summer with big hopes but was derailed by injuries and a lack of rhythm. Yet since his January switch to the Blues, Dowell has come alive—registering five goals and five assists in just 22 games.

That kind of end product has turned heads in Birmingham, and with the club eager to add Championship-ready talent, it’s no shock they want him permanently. A reported £1.5 million fee could seal the deal—reasonable business for a player who just couldn’t quite break into the Rangers midfield rotation.

💰 The Right Move for All?

In total, a £3.5 million double deal is being discussed—and with Rangers set for a major summer rebuild, every penny will count. Under new leadership, the club is clearly looking to reshape the squad with purpose. Davies and Dowell, though both professionals, are not central to the future vision.

There’s no ill will. They’ve gone out, found form, and helped a proud English club return to where they belong. If permanent moves are confirmed, we’ll wish them both the best.

With these potential outgoings, eyes now turn to incoming players. Will Rangers reinvest the funds in a commanding centre-back? Another creative midfielder? Time will tell, but with European qualifiers and domestic dominance on the agenda, the stakes are high.
