Something’s brewing at Ibrox — and this time, it’s not just anticipation for the Old Firm. Today, Rangers fans were sent into a frenzy of speculation after the club unexpectedly cancelled stadium tours. Social media lit up with rumours, with some suggesting a VIP visit was underway. Then came the photo: a long-distance snap from the Blue Sky Lounge looking across the pitch towards the tunnel. You could barely make out any faces, but it was enough to get tongues wagging — was this the new manager, or someone even more significant?

As it turned out, the reality was just as headline-worthy. Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart was pictured alongside Andrew Cavenagh, Paraag Marathe, Gretar Steinsson, and other key members of the 49ers Enterprises consortium, as they toured the stadium in person. This visit marks a significant step forward in the proposed 51% takeover of Rangers.

Just last week, the club broke its silence and confirmed “productive conversations” were ongoing between Rangers’ current shareholders and the American consortium, which also owns Leeds United through 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group. That group, now increasingly visible at Ibrox, has already injected serious capital into English football — and now they’re eyeing up Glasgow.

These discussions reflect a shared recognition of the importance of Rangers FC’s long-term direction, ambitions and management.

That’s the line from the club — and with these latest developments, it’s becoming clear this is more than just exploratory interest. With Leeds celebrating their return to the Premier League, and the 49ers pushing forward in Glasgow, this could be a transformative month for both clubs — and a pivotal moment in Rangers’ modern history.

This isn’t their first dance with Ibrox, either. Andrew Cavenagh quietly made his debut at Ibrox back in January, attending the win over St Johnstone. He’s since become a familiar face in the stands during European nights. Gretar Steinsson has also been spotted at key matches. But now we’ve seen Paraag Marathe — president of 49ers Enterprises and chairman of Leeds United — strolling around Ibrox itself.

Was that also San Francisco 49ers supremo Jed York in the group?

Make no mistake: things are heating up.

For Rangers fans, the prospect of new investment, strong sporting leadership, and a more modern, globally connected ownership model is thrilling. And while the focus on Sunday will be on the pitch — and claiming bragging rights in the city — developments off the field might just shape the club’s future in an even bigger way.

Stay tuned. Things are moving fast.
