As Rangers fans, we know all too well that football is a game of constant change. Players come and go, but the memories they create during their time at Ibrox often last a lifetime. Scott Wright is one such player who, despite the ups and downs of his Rangers career, leaves with a place in the hearts of many fans.
League Title, Europa League Final and Domestic Cup Success.
Scott Wright arrived at Rangers in the winter of 2021, a time when the club was in the final stretch of our incredible journey to the 55th Scottish Premiership title. His arrival might have been under the radar for some, but it didn’t take long for him to make an impact. Wright’s speed, energy, and ability to change the tempo of the game became invaluable in the latter stages of the season. His contributions, particularly as an impact substitute, helped us secure the title that we had all been yearning for.
While he may not have always been the star of the show, Wright’s role during that title-winning season is something we shouldn’t overlook. His ability to inject pace and pressure into games, often at crucial moments, was a key asset for the team. He was a player who, when called upon, delivered performances that helped us cross the finish line and lift the trophy. For that, he will always be remembered.
An Impact Player form the Bench and in Cup Finals!
One of Scott Wright’s most memorable contributions came in the 2022 Scottish Cup final. With the match finely poised, it was Wright who stepped up, scoring a crucial goal that helped secure the trophy for Rangers. This moment, coupled with his appearance in the Europa League final the same year, solidified his reputation as a player who could handle the pressure of the big stage.
Yet, despite these moments of brilliance, there was always a feeling among the Ibrox faithful that Wright was better suited to coming off the bench rather than starting matches. His build-up play was often excellent, creating opportunities and stretching defences, but when it came to that final touch, that killer instinct, he sometimes struggled to deliver. It’s this inconsistency that perhaps prevented him from becoming a regular starter for the club.
Time to Move On: A Mutual Understanding
As much as we appreciate Scott Wright’s contributions to Rangers, there’s a sense among many fans that the time for him to move on had come a season or two ago. Football is a game where timing is everything, and sometimes, a player’s peak at a club is short-lived. For Wright, his impact was felt most when he was used as a substitute, coming on to change the dynamic of a game. However, when given the chance to start, he often found it difficult to replicate those same levels of influence.
Now, as Scott Wright embarks on a new chapter with Birmingham, we wish him all the best. He leaves Rangers having made 120 appearances and scored 12 goals, including some in the biggest matches of our recent history. We thank him for his service, for the memories, and for always giving his all when wearing the famous blue jersey.
All the Best, Scott
To Scott Wright: thank you for your contributions, especially during that unforgettable 55th title-winning season. You may not have been the most consistent starter, but your impact as a substitute and your commitment to the club will not be forgotten. We wish you all the success at Birmingham and hope that this move gives you the fresh start you deserve. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger. Good luck, Scott!
