Late on Wednesday, news broke about Rangers potentially moving for Wolfsburg’s Vaclav Cerny. Since then the transfer has moved quickly with Rangers announcing the loan transfer just a short while ago. Though, many Rangers fans will have wanted our transfer business to be much further down the line at this point, it’s an exciting development for the Ibrox faithful as we bolster our squad with a talented winger.
Cerny’s Journey: From Ajax to Ibrox
Vaclav Cerny, who joined Wolfsburg last summer from FC Twente, has had a challenging season in the Bundesliga. The 26-year-old Czech winger started just 12 games last season, scoring four goals. Eager for more regular game time, Cerny sees this temporary move to Rangers as the perfect opportunity to showcase his skills.
Cerny brings a wealth of experience, having been part of the Czech Republic squad at Euro 2024. His youth career was predominantly spent at Ajax, followed by two seasons at Utrecht and three successful years at FC Twente. However, his move from the Eredivisie to Wolfsburg didn’t pan out as hoped, leading to his decision to seek more playing time elsewhere.
Familiar Faces and Fresh Beginnings
Interestingly, Cerny has previously worked with Rangers’ new assistant Andries Ulderink and played alongside forward Danilo at Jong Ajax and Twente. This familiarity within the club is a promising sign, suggesting that Cerny can quickly adapt and make an impact on the pitch.
Rangers finally have an Experienced Right Winger!
Rangers have been lacking options on the right wing for quite some time. Many fans point to the departure of Daniel Candeias in 2019 as the last time we had a recognised right winger. With that comment almost becoming a meme among the Rangers fans. Cerny’s arrival addresses this gap, bringing much-needed depth and versatility to our attacking options.
With Cerny on board, we hope this is just the beginning of an active transfer window for Rangers. In our view, the club should aim to bring in at least three more starters in addition to Cerny. Strengthening our squad is essential as we compete on multiple fronts in the upcoming season.
What Cerny Brings to the Table
Cerny is known for his eye for goal and impressive speed, making him a perfect fit for the pressing football style that Rangers aim to play. His ability to stretch defences and contribute to both goals and assists will undoubtedly enhance our attacking prowess.
As the new season approaches, let’s get behind Vaclav Cerny and welcome him to the Rangers family. Here’s to an exciting season ahead with more signings and thrilling football at Ibrox!
